Critical components in the hydropower industry, such as turbines and gates, must rely on bearings to function properly. RLB is committed to producing spherical plain bearings that reduce disruption, reduce operating costs and prevent environmental pollution.

Bearings play an important role in ensuring these goals are met, and bearing reliability is especially important. Traditionally, greased bronze bearings have been used in hydroelectric power generation due to their historical success and familiarity with them in the industry. However, grease bearings are known to increase the risk of turbine failure if not properly maintained, add additional annual costs through the purchase of grease/lubricant, waste personnel maintenance time, and risk environmental contamination.

In fact, 15% of rotor, damper and turbine failures are due to lubrication issues, while another 7% are due to bearing wear. Another 8% was attributed to lubrication and wear-related issues. Therefore, the selection of bearings has a significant impact on the operation of hydropower plants.
